What Is Anxiety?
Anxiety is more than occasional nervousness. It’s a persistent state of worry, fear, or panic that can interfere with daily life. It can affect mood, sleep, focus, physical health, and relationships. For some, anxiety can feel like a constant background tension; for others, it shows up in sudden, intense episodes of panic.
We treat a wide range of anxiety related conditions through virtual psychiatric care, including:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): ongoing worry about everyday matters
- Panic Disorder: recurrent panic attacks with physical symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, chest tightness, sweating, and dizziness
- Social Anxiety Disorder: fear of being judged or embarrassed by others in social situations
- Specific Phobias: intense fear triggered by specific objects or situations (e.g., flying, needles, public speaking)
- Anxiety related to medical illness or medication effects

Common Signs & Symptoms of Anxiety
Symptoms vary from person to person, but common signs include:
- Restlessness or feeling “on edge”
- Racing thoughts or inability to control worry
- Physical symptoms like palpitations, shortness of breath, or chest tightness
- Muscle tension, jaw clenching, or trembling
- Trouble sleeping or staying asleep
- Difficulty concentrating or feeling distracted
- Avoidance of situations that may trigger stress
- Heightened irritability or exaggerated startle response
- Intense fear or panic attacks
If these symptoms are affecting your work, relationships, or daily function, our psychiatrists will help you find an effective, individualized treatment for anxiety so you can find relief and get back to living a full life.
How We Treat Anxiety at Lifetime Insight
Every patient’s anxiety is different, therefore the treatment plan should be as well. Our psychiatrists personalize treatments to combine their medical expertise with a compassionate, whole-person integrative approach for long-term sustainable relief.
Initial Telepsychiatry Evaluation
Your first visit is a 55-minute comprehensive assessment conducted via a secure HIPAA-compliant video where we review your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, and lifestyle factors. We use clinical tools such as the GAD-7 to assess anxiety severity and track progress over time.
Medication Management
If appropriate, we may prescribe medication such as SSRIs, SNRIs, or other evidence-based options. Your treatment is closely monitored and adjusted with care. All prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy.
Psychotherapy Integration
While we don’t have in-house therapists, our psychiatrists are trained in psychotherapy and integrate these techniques into treatment sessions when appropriate. In some cases, we may also be able to provide ongoing therapy alongside medication management, depending on availability and clinical fit. For patients seeking additional support, we are happy to refer you to trusted therapists in our extended network. We recommend evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Therapy, or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Lifestyle & Holistic Interventions
We support patients who are interested in integrative strategies to enhance emotional resilience and overall well-being through:
- Personalized exercise and nutrition recommendations, including nutritional psychiatry principles such as anti-inflammatory diets
- Hormone informed psychiatric care
- Personalized supplementation (via Fullscript or VitaminLab)
- Mindfulness tools
- Sleep hygiene routines
- Lab coordination with your primary care clinician for thyroid, vitamin D, or hormone panels
Is It Anxiety or Something Else?
Symptoms of anxiety can overlap with depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, thyroid disorders, grief, or trauma-related conditions. Our board-certified psychiatrists are trained to recognize and differentiate between these conditions, ensuring you receive the right treatment.
We carefully assess whether your symptoms are part of:
- An anxiety disorder vs. a mood or trauma disorder
- A panic disorder vs. medical causes (e.g., heart or lung conditions)
- Stress-related adjustment disorder vs. chronic anxiety
An accurate diagnosis is essential for effective treatment
and that’s where we come in.
When to Reach Out for Help
You should consider seeking help if:
- Symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks
- Your mood is interfering with your work, relationships, or ability to function
- Avoidance behaviors are limiting your daily life
- You’re feeling physically unwell due to stress
With early and effective treatment, anxiety is highly manageable
you don’t have to face it alone.
