Frequently Asked Questions Telepsychiatry FAQ

Who we are, what we offer, where we practice

A psychiatrist is a physician — a medical doctor who completed four years of undergraduate education, four years of medical school covering the full scope of human medicine including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, and neuroscience, followed by a minimum four-year psychiatric residency with thousands of supervised clinical hours treating complex psychiatric illness.

A psychiatric nurse practitioner completes a nursing degree followed by a graduate-level NP program. NP training is measured in hundreds of clinical hours — not years — and is grounded in a nursing framework rather than a medical one. NP curricula also dedicate significant time to topics like scope of practice regulations, state licensing requirements, and administrative practice management.

The difference matters most when your case is complex — treatment-resistant depression, PTSD layered with substance use, psychiatric symptoms caused by neurological conditions like CTE or TBI, or medication interactions requiring deep pharmacological knowledge.

At Lifetime Insight, all care is provided exclusively by board-certified psychiatrists. Every patient is seen by a physician

Dr. Hovav is a physician who graduated Medical School with Honors, completed an Internal Medicine internship, went on to complete a three-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Brain Stimulation and Neuroimaging in Mental Illness, completed a Psychiatry residency, and has Diplomate status from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has the honor of being a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has an active license to practice medicine in Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada, California, Kansas, and Florida.

Dr. Hauck is a physician who has done both a residency in psychiatry as well as a fellowship in addiction psychiatry. She has earned the high status of Diplomate from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the honor of being a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Hauck has received several medals from the US Military and has been a medical director at substance use programs as well as a CMO at a naval health clinic. She is licensed to practice medicine in Nebraska, Colorado, and Virginia.

What to expect from care

Research shows that telepsychiatry is equally effective for most conditions, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and more. Our psychiatrists use the same evidence-based approach whether you’re seen online or in person.

Yes. Lifetime Insight provides secure telepsychiatry appointments — sometimes called telehealth psychiatry or online psychiatry — using HIPAA-compliant video platforms. This allows you to connect with your psychiatrist from anywhere within your licensed state.

Common areas include anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, bipolar spectrum disorders, stress-related issues such as PTSD, insomnia, traumatic brain injuries, and psychiatric needs within the peripartum period. Each treatment plan is individualized.

Our psychiatrists provide care for adults 18 and older.

In the proper case, patients can be seen for integrative treatments which include traditional methods alongside psychotherapy. This is based on physician availability and individualized considerations.

All psychiatric visits are conducted via telehealth using a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform unless otherwise arranged. We highly suggest that you find a comfortable and private location in your home (or office) in advance of the visit. You cannot be seen if you are in a moving vehicle. We are able to see patients across many states.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”) provides federal protection of patient health information. HIPAA permits the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (“PHI”) for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations (“TPO”). Treatment encompasses the care doctors provide patients (including the rest of the healthcare team such as your primary healthcare clinician). Payment includes billing and collection activities. Healthcare operations include all of our business activities, including teaching and training healthcare professionals. Exceptions are suspected child abuse or dependent adult/elder abuse. We are required to report these to the appropriate authorities.

If a patient is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, the police will be notified and confidentiality does not apply. If a patient intends on harming themselves, we first make every effort to work together and ensure safety, but if cooperation is not achieved and the patient is in grave danger, the proper authorities will be notified and confidentiality will not apply.

Your privacy and confidentiality are always protected to the full extent of the law.

Yes, we have both early morning and evening appointments available if you cannot make it during another time of the day, however this depends on the time zone.

That is very dependent on the severity of your condition. Most patients require more frequent visits initially with reduced frequency as they are medically optimized and the clinical condition improves.
